"Poor Little Heart"- a short poem by Emily Dickinson

"Poor Little Heart"- a poem by Emily Dickinson

Poor little Heart!
Did they forget thee?
Then dinna care! Then dinna care!

Proud little Heart!
Did they forsake thee?
Be debonnaire! Be debonnaire!

Frail little Heart!
I would not break thee—
Could'st credit me? Could'st credit me?

Gay little Heart— Wind and Sun—wilt thee array

I am a huge fan of love. The reason I chose this poem is because it is so deep and passionate and truly speaks to me.  While it is hard to understand what I like to call "Olden English," I felt the poem related to me because Dickinson is discussing heartbreak. I know myself I have definitely experienced my fair share of heartache, and have felt that my feelings on a relationship were forgotten. The first stanza really spoke to me. When Dickinson writes, "Poor Little Heart/Did they forget thee?" There have been times when I have definitely felt I put more effort into a relationship, and that my feelings have often gone forgotten. It comforts me to know that as famous of a poet as Emily Dickinson was that she also felt that way, and it also gives me an insight as to how she felt about her own personal love issues.
